Les Musiciens et la Grande Guerre vol. 4
Prescience - Conscience
They were young and seemed assured of a brilliant future. They were Belgian (Devaere), German (Stephan, Jürgens), British (Butterworth, Farrar), Australian (Kelly) or French. On the eve of the conflict, in their songs and with an impres¬sive sense of foreboding, they expressed at once nostalgia for a bygone era, wrestling with the eternal themes of oblivion and death, and the sor¬rows of their lives about to be upended. The survi¬vors, striving to overcome bitterness and sadness, found the strength to sing forth the hope or peace they felt themselves to be regaining.
Marc Mauillon, baryton
Anne Le Bozec, piano
