Debussy - Liszt - Moussorgsky
If "music begins where words loose their power", if music is an ungraspable abstraction, limited in time, if, finally, music is self-sufficient, musicians have sometimes taken up the challenge of translating into sounds an entirely different kind of beauty ; the everlasting splendour of a painting, a sculpture or an autumnal landscape. The listener then perceives the painting transformed through the dual prism of the composer and the performer, renewing, with the sense of transience, the way in which he beholds it.
