György Kurtág
In parallel with his Játékoks, which are like intimate pianistic notebooks, György Kurtág transcribed a number of chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach for four-hand piano or for two pianos. Juxtaposing the Hungarian composer’s original pieces and his transcriptions is a way of inciting internal listening, in which all temporal and stylistic references vanish. It’s a switch which questions universals... and the infinitude of the creative act.
