Field composed his Nocturnes between 1812 and 1835, at a time when, as Guy Sacre writes in "La Musique de piano", ‘the piano, building on its technical progress, took upon itself to rival the voice, in “cantability”, in expressivity, in emotion’, inventing
‘a genre in which to pour out the heart, in the manner of a vocal romance’.
For his first recording Florent Albrecht has chosen the de Meglio piano Field could have played during his stay in Naples in 1834, revealing an unpublished nocturne.
