J.S. Bach
The clavichord reached its peak in the mid-18th century when it also became larger and unfretted. It was especially in Germany and other German-speaking countries that it found its greatest admirers such as C.Ph.E. Bach, who considered it superior to the harpsichord and the pianoforte for solo music. Bach's first biographer Forkel suggests that the clavichord was J.S. Bach's favorite keyboard Instrument, the most suitable to express his highly refined musical thoughts. Cristiano Holtz plays a Klinkhamer copy of Heinrich Silbermann's instrument (Strasbourg, ca. 1775).
