Yves Castagnet

Orgue

Born in Paris in 1964, Yves Castagnet pursued his musical studies at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique (CNSMD) in organ, harmony, counterpoint, fugue, orchestration and improvisation. These studies were crowned by several first prizes, including a first prize in organ in 1985. • In 1988 he was awarded first prize for interpretation at the international competition “Grand-Prix de Chartres” which afforded him the opportunity to begin an international career as soloist in the United States, Great Britain, Italy, Sweden and Hungary. In conjunction with his activities as soloist, Yves Castagnet devotes a large part of his time to his role of liturgical organist. Since 1988 he has been titular organist of the choir organ in Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris where every day he accompanies the choral services sung by the Cathedral choir.

Both as organist and continuist, Yves Castagnet is very attached to vocal accompaniment, and in this role, he regularly accompanies the Maîtrise de Notre Dame in their concert productions. He is also invited by other formations such as Radio France and the University of Paris-Sorbonne choirs.

Since 1992, he also teaches interpretation to the adult singers in the Maîtrise de Notre Dame.
